Regarding Eridan’s typing quirk

(I really hope that this post is informative as I spent A LOT of time working hard on it. Please do reblog and spread the word here on this, I’m trying to help people out since Eridan is so poorly characterised within the fandom)

It should be best for me to make the first ‘proper’ post of this Tumblr about getting Eridan’s typing quirk right, seeing as this is definitely an important factor in roleplaying Eridan. It’s pretty simple to get the hang of but I see people getting it wrong all of the time so I’m making a simple guide. Look below the ‘read more’ for the rest because this gets very long, screenshots and all.

Let’s start off with the most obvious characteristic of Eridan’s quirk. He types with double ‘ww’ and ‘vv’. However, this is NOT the only thing that defines Eridan’s typing quirk. I can’t count how many Eridans I’ve seen only using this part of his quirk.

In addition to this, he will often (though not always, I’ll address that some more later) subract the ‘-g’ part away from ‘-ing’ on the end of words. One exception to this is that he will (probably) NOT turn ‘thing’ into ‘thin’ because that doesn’t really work well and he’s never done it in canon so we can assume, though he does turn ‘something’ into ‘somethin’ because that’s more reasonable and he has done it in canon.

Eridan will capitalise words for emphasis rather often. Sometimes Eridan will only capitalise half of the word to put emphasis on it, this is an example of him displaying his overdramatic personality and love for theatrics.

Eridan will address other troll characters with nicknames shortened to the first half (three letters as all trolls have six letter names) of their names. For example; Nepeta turns to ‘nep’, Sollux turns to ‘sol’, and Vriska turns to ‘vvris’, Feferi turns to ‘fef.’ Simple enough!

In NO CASES has Eridan EVER used punctuation. He will often end his sentences with a ‘tag question’ (e.g. ‘right’ or ‘isnt it’) but he will never include a question mark. Punctuation is not a thing that Eridan uses in his typing and I’ve seen way too many Eridans use it. He does not use proper capitalisation.

Eridan will (in most cases, though not all, I’ll write more about that later) replace ‘and’ with ‘an’. In addition to this, he will also usually replace ‘of’ and ‘an’ with ‘a’.

It’s not really part of his ‘quirk’ I guess, but it’s definitely worth adding that Eridan does swear on a rather frequent basis with ‘fuckin’ being his favourite expletive word to use.

Eridan’s quirk is not completely constant, he will not ALWAYS subtract the ‘-g’ from ‘-ing’ words and sometimes he will type a full ‘and’ or ‘of’. (For example, one rule to go by is that if you’re going to say ‘of a’ don’t try to turn it into ‘a a’) Personally, I think typing fluently in his quirk and only minimally doing this is fine though you should bear in mind that he DOES do this sometimes.

The one definate constant in his quirk is the ‘ww’ and ‘vv’ though he DID drop it once for Feferi to show that he was being serious, but you shouldn’t go around dropping it all of the time. It is the one most important constant and defining characteristic of his typing quirk.

he’s above them in the hemospectrum and also a seadweller, so he feels superior to them

he’s probably under the impression that he SHOULD hate them because that’s the example that he’s been set

the fact that most of them don’t really respect him can’t help much

he isn’t ‘racist’ because they’re all trolls and that is their race… the whole blood caste superiority thing is just a troll culture thing

Hi! This is tumblr user eridantier speaking and I want to educate Tumblr on Eridan.

I care a lot about Eridan Ampora and it truly saddens me to see him so poorly characterised within the fandom and reduced to a desperate “wweh wweh fill my buckets” character. Since I spend a lot of time thinking about and analysing his character as well as roleplaying him, I figured I could probably help a few people out by educating them and so I created this blog.
